My soul dog is needing surgery on a strange mass on her skin. She is only 5 years old and this spot was noticed around 2 years old. I pointed it out to the vet at every check up but it seemed like a strange cowlick and could be brushed out thinner.
it started changing this year and I noticed growths of long finger-like skin tags and rough skin. If it were anywhere else but her flank they would think it’s irritation from rubbing skin but there is nothing for it to rub against. The vet has never seen anything exactly like it and even a an animal dermatologist doesn’t know. The only option is surgery to get it off before it grows more and test it.
Surgery is schedule June 26. They don’t suspect it is cancer but they also have no idea what it is. They don’t think it’s Papillomavirus because of the location, duration, sudden change and it would be the strange for it to start growing an isolated cluster of thin skin tags. I am staying calm and remaining hopeful it is a bengin growth. At the very least she is in good hands with our vet and specialists
